Wipro BPO

It was difficult to imagine Spectramind without Raman Roy, but it happened. Today there is no Spectramind and Raman Roy has also parted ways. The transition of Spectramind from being Wipro Spectramind to Wipro BPO happened gradually.

A brainchild of Raman Roy, who is often hailed as a pioneer of India's BPO industry, Spectramind was acquired by Wipro in July 2002. The company, which is counted among the biggest and best-managed BPOs in the country, is now looking for a new growth path under the leadership of its new CEO TK Kurien.

Kurien has been a key member of the Wipro BPO team driving the transaction processing business initiative. Over the last seven years, Kurien has handled many successful assignments including the launch of the company's Systems Integration practice. He also had a successful stint as the CFO of Wipro GE Medical Systems Ltd, and as CEO of GE X Ray from October 1997 to January 2000.

Wipro is now looking at integrating its BPO arm more tightly with the rest of its business. This will be done through an alignment of outsourcing services with Wipro's vertical solutions, domain expertise and increased optimisation and standardisation of processes and technologies.

Today, 17 percent of Wipro's BPO revenue come from transaction processing, while the rest 83 percent comes from voice processes. The company plans move away from the existing call centre focused business to a high value transaction-processing model.
