BPO firm Vertex is looking at acquiring domestic BPO companies and intends to make India its global hub according to published reports.
Vertex MD for private sector, Bruce MacLeod, said that it is not possible to be a leading global BPO player without India being a vital part. MacLeod recently took over India operations after the exit of Ashish Taneja.
This India focus announcement comes soon after the company suffered a series of setbacks last month. The CEO of Vertex India, Ashish Taneja, resigned; the company reportedly laid off about 300 people from the India center and lost a key client, Trainline, who moved back work from India.
In a move to restructure its India approach Vertex now plans to move 300 roles in HR and finance, among other functions, from its UK and North America operations to India. Employees on these roles would be re-deployed in other functions in their home market.
Vertex is looking at 2-3 BPO firms for acquisitions that will give it a critical mass and larger presence in the domestic market.
