Telus offers staff shot at degrees

Business process outsourcing company Telus International Philippines Inc. has come up with a program to help its employees finish college while working the graveyard shift.

“The company will subsidize the tuition of the beneficiary. The classes will be held in the two centers of Telus located in Cubao in Quezon City and Taguig.

The professors of the universities will teach the standard curriculum but during schedules most suited for our employees who are working at night,” said Telus International President and CEO Javier Infante, according to a report published in businessworld.com.

Infante believes that helping employees go to college is an investment not only in the company but also in an individual’s future.

The program, which has been developed in partnership with five universities, is called Telus International University. The courses offered include economics, entrepreneurship, management, information technology, and humanities.

Infante said the program will have 50 employees in the first round and hopes to include 1,000 employees in three years. He added that the company will not require employees to sign a contract or bond before the joining the program.
