Hiring time at TCS: To recruit 60,000 in FY’ 2012

India’s largest software service firm, Tata Consultancy Services plans to hire about 60,000 people in the current financial year according to Ajoy Mukherjee, VP and Head of Global Human Resources.

During the last financial year, the company had hired about 69,000 plus to meet the robust demand for outsourcing services. Mukherjee said that majority of the hiring will be in India, but TCS will also increase its hiring in the US, the UK, besides other overseas locations.

More than half of the proposed 60,000 new recruits will come from the campus. The company has already made 37,396 offers to engineering students across 343 campuses.

Mukherjee said, "As long as there's growth, you don't want to leave business on the table. What we're trying to do is make sure the supply chain is large enough to meet our growth requirements in the future."

However, attrition continued to remain a concern for the country's largest software exporter and to counter that TCS will offer raises of 12% to 14% to its employees.

"About 12-14 per cent is the increment that we have decided for offshore, that is India. And as far as locations overseas are concerned, in the major markets, we are going to give 2-4 per cent. In the emerging market, it will be between 2-10 per cent,” Mukherjee added.

TCS is on course to become the first Indian IT company to have more than 2 lakh employees. Its employee account, as on March 31, was 1,98,614.
