After first expressing concerns over President-elect Barack Obama's comments on outsourcing and then dismissing fears of any major impact on the Indian IT and BPO industries, Nasscom has now decided to get some answers straight from the horse's mouth.
A delegation from the IT and software industry's apex body plans to visit the United States in March, ostensibly to meet with officials of the Obama administration and try to lobby their case using think-tanks and other senior Congressmen and Senators in order to guard against any nasty shocks for the Indian IT industry.
A report in the Economic Times said though it was not clear who would be on the plane to Washington, there is every likelihood that some of the best minds would be asked to get onboard alongside Nasscom President Som Mittal.
On his part, Mittal has sought to clarify that the trip is part of an exercise to put the things in proper perspective and highlights a similar trip to Japan where Nasscom had interacted with local policy makers and senior officials.
Since the US companies account for more than 60 per cent of India's software exports, there is every reason for Nasscom to step in and ensure that things do not go horribly wrong from any policy initiatives that Obama might take ostensibly to create more jobs in the United States.
In recent times, the apex industry association has also tried to develop more and more visibility for Indian IT industry in Europe, the Scandinavian countries and the APAC.
