Nasscom President Som Mittal thinks that the path-breaking concepts coming into the multi-billion dollar off-shoring industry would soon ensure that the Indian IT industry will capture centre-stage of the global economy after pushing out words like offshore and outsource from the dictionary.
He holds the view that the very way in which business is done on the IT firmament will change and this will not be built around concepts of offshore and outsource as businesses will find it exceedingly difficult to answer questions related to when a process is outsourced or off-shored.
"Indian IT companies operate out of 27 countries and in 75 cities have their own centers…. So if that is the case, then it is actually part of delivery chain and not outsourcing", he said at the launch of a book titled “Outsourcing to India: Cross-Border Legal Issues.”
The book, written by Aparna Vishwanathan is reference guide to lawyers who write outsourcing contracts involving services rendered in India. It also hands out information on contracts, taxation, employment and data protection.
On his part, Mittal believes that demographics of the world were changing so fast that in the next decade a new world order will emerge that will not be able to understand the concepts of offshore and outsourcing.
" five to ten years, we are going to see dramatic changes that eliminate many services in the world. It is not about cost arbitrage, but very few people to service the world. The next five to ten years we are going to see dramatic changes that will the way world works and that will not necessarily mean offshore or outsource," he says.
