The BPO arm of Mahindra Satyam has finally turned cash-positive after seven years of its inception. Mahindra Satyam BPO, started as a 100 per cent subsidiary of Satyam in 2002 has been registering 3-4 per cent margins for the past few months.
Vijay Rangineni, CEO Mahindra Satyam said that the new management has undertaken several initiatives to mould it into a robust, customer centric organization. He said that the positive developments in the BPO unit are reflective of their fundamentally sound decisions. The company took a strategic decision to manage costs better to maintain profitability.
The company reached its break-even point three months ago with a head count of 1000 employees. A senior company official said that the company is no more a liability. Recently the company has also bagged new customers including a contact with Tata Tele Services Ltd.
Satyam BPO and Tech Mahindra BPO together have an associate base of 9000 and a delivery footprint of nine locations globally. Satyam BPO is offering services in both voice and non-voice areas to its 22 customers. “We have a strong presence in areas such as artwork and pack management, geospatial services and manufacturing support services, in addition to our engagements with a Fortune 20 telecom major, to whom we offer customer service and technical support,” Vijay explained. He said that 92 per cent of the service level agreements are above committed levels.
The company also handles operations for the customer base in Andhra Pradesh for an Indian Services Company. The company takes care of the inbound call about to information on services, new offers, usage-related challenges and other aspects.
