UK law firms set to outsource work to India

The Indian legal process outsourcing (LPO) industry is one segment of the global outsourcing sector that seems to have benefitted immensely from the economic slump spreading across the developed countries.

After a slew of orders from the United States, largely related to filing bankruptcy and associated issues, there is a new trend of legal firms from Britain considering India as a destination for outsourcing conveyance, accident claims and due diligence investigations.

Published media reports said some of the firms are considering outsourcing via a vendor while others are open to establish offshore operations in the country, the sole aim being to cut operating expenses as costs in India work out to only about a fraction of what British legal firms pay their workers.

The trend has already begun with leading British law firm Clifford Chance setting up offices in Delhi while its competitor Eversheds has been outsourcing work to Indian vendors for some months now.

And the beneficiaries are Indian LPO companies like CPA Global which states that as many as 30 client enquires have reached them in the past few months. Looks like the reports about LPO being the second fastest growth segment in the entire BPO industry is now coming true.

Recent studies had indicated that the LPO sector would generate employment opportunities for about 32,000 professionals by 2009, about 40,000 professionals by 2010, and about 82,000 professionals by 2015.
