Kochi Infopark is estimated to provide 50,000 jobs in the IT/ITES sector by 2011. The project which will be completed by 2011 will offer a low cost plug and play a major part in BPO. The park which will also promote eco tourism is developed over 160 acres of land at the Kunnathunadu and Puthencuruz village near Kochi.
Kerala CM, VS Achuthanandan, laid the foundation stone for the Infopark. "The Infopark will be operational by 2011 for which the allocation funds have already been allotted. Once complete, the Infopark will be able to generate 50,000 jobs in the IT sector", the chief minister said while laying the foundation.
Achuthanandan also added that the park is designed purely on eco and tourism friendly module by utilizing the possibilities of the nearby river Kadampurzha. He commented on the tremendous achievement of the state in the IT sector. He also pointed out that when the government came into power the state had only two parks and now there are 10 such parks in progress and the master plans for these has been prepared.
The government has also planned to include facilities like commercial and recreational zone, business hotels, and employee friendly facilities like sports, healthcare, food and entertainment.
The total revenue recorded by Infopark at Kakkanad is 4.63 billion rupees. The total number of IT professionals in Kakkanad Infopark is 9000 which includes the 2500 IT professionals added last year.
A few months back the IT sector was going through a period of frozen salaries, promotions, and in some cases decline in quarterly headcount additions due to the economic recession. But today the Indian IT sector is looking forward to open new opportunities to prospective employees as the gloom of the recession has been lifted from the 60 billion dollars industry and with the increasing demand for outsourcing services.
