If the hiring needs are an indicative of changing economic scenario, the much awaited upswing must be just round the corner. A report in the Times of India suggests that India’s second largest tech firm, Infosys, has started the hiring process again for its BPO arm.
Infosys had earlier this year put a freeze on fresh recruitments after meeting this financial year’s target of hiring 25,000 people. However the company had indicated that it will honor its commitment of hiring 18,000 campus students who pass in July 2009.
Increasing business needs and new projects has led to creation of new positions and the need for fulfilling back fills on account of attrition. The company is believed to have about 200 vacancies coming up on a month on month basis. The report quoted BPO vice-president and HR head K Raghavendra saying that the openings are at the entry level and the company plans to recruit for various processes across all service offerings including for both voice and non-voice offerings.
The BPO facility currently has about 17,238 employees. After Infosys concluded its annual performance appraisal exercise in mid-March, the company had shown door to 2,100 people across the country.
