Infosys BPO aims to cut attrition levels

Infosys BPO has drawn up plans to reduce employee attrition levels over the next twelve months though this does not mean that they would put up with underperformers, published media reports said.

The company doesn’t plan to cut jobs in the wake of the slump in the United States, but would be adhering rigidly to performance and appraisal systems of the company to ensure that those who are below par can quickly shape-up or get shipped-out.

A Radhakrishnan, VP of Infosys BPO told delegates at the India Investment Summit last week that while there would be no cut in staff across the board, the bottom 10 per cent of performers may get weeded out.

Attrition rates in the BPO industry has been on the downswing ever since news of the US economic meltdown hit the circuit. The rates have reportedly plunged from a high of 40 per cent to below 10 per cent in recent times.

Infosys BPO too has reported a decline in attrition rates from a high of 43 per cent in 2006 to about 32 per cent in the second half of the current year with Radhakrishnan stating that this could come down below 20 per cent in 2009.

He also revealed that the company would be reducing the number of people it recruits in 2009 though he reiterated that the company would not be resorting to cost-cutting through layoffs.
