HP India may cut 6000 jobs, say analysts

Close on the heels of the announcement that HP may cut 24,000 jobs worldwide over the next three years, there comes news that one-fourth of this number could be actually lost in India alone.

Published media reports indicated that the company could let-off 1000 people which could go up to 6000 people within three years, accounting for nearly one-tenth of the company’s strength.

A report in the Times of India quoted un-named employees as saying that HP was abuzz with rumours of work consolidation across the world could actually bring more work into the Bangalore centre. However, since the work will be handled out of a single centre, the head count will be reduced.

The company has stated that half of the job cuts will take place in the United States and maintained that workforce reduction would vary from country based on local legal requirements and consultations with work councils and employees.

The company has also made it clear that it will provide employees affected by this restructuring program with severance packages, counselling and job placement services.
