HCL has $100 million infra-management deals in pipeline

With many companies are looking forward to send their infrastructure management work offshore, HCL Technologies has said that it has several $ 100 million infrastructure outsourcing deals in the pipeline. The company earlier this year won a $ 350 million contract from Reader’s Digest for managing the publisher’s desktops and servers.

With the increase in IT infrastructure demand, the global IT infrastructure market has been growing exponentially for the past few years. A recent survey by Forrester revealed that top 15 vendors of IT infrastructure provided remote and onsite services for about 16.7 million desktops, 1.7 million servers and 23.4 million users globally. These top vendors including IBM, HP-EDS, CSC and HCL from India delivered $83.9 billion worth of infrastructure services last year.

“Our team is working on some IT-outsourcing deals in energy and media and publishing sectors. Our focus continues to remain on geographies such as the US, Continental Europe, UK and India,” HCL Comnet Systems & Services president Anant Gupta said. The infrastructure services business of HCL is managed by HCL Comnet Systems & Services, a wholly-owned subsidiary of HCL.

Indian tech firms like TCS, Infosys and Wipro have grown their market share in application development, maintenance and back office outsourcing. But the outsourcing of computer hardware maintenance is still lead by multinational rivals.

For HCL, infrastructure services accounted for around 17.6% of the company’s annual revenue in 2008-09. “Demand for IT services has certainly started looking up and we expect to clinch some good deals in the process,” Mr Gupta said adding that pricing pressure, too, was also waning off.
