The company was making $200,000 in revenue a year and Khosla had been used to earning much more than that by himself.

“It was difficult but, for me that’s exciting because there is a massive challenge in being able create a business from scratch,” says Khosla.

Since the middle of 2005, Copal’s revenues have been growing by 10% a month. Copal has four practice areas: investment banking, equity research, credit research and strategy/consulting. The company covers a broad range of industries including banking and insurance, consumer goods, energy, leisure, media, real estate, technology and telecom.

The company is looking at newer markets considering that the US is going through a tough economic situation especially in the financial institutions sector. “Some of that is actually playing out well for us with customers emphasizing more on reducing costs. We continue to focus on the US and on Europe, but at the same time we are now focusing on emerging economies including India,” he says
