Pawan Magoo:
I am an HR professional with 5 -6 years of experience with BPOs. i am looking for a pure recruitment role with BPOs in Delhi/NCR. What is the best way to approach any organisation for this?
Ans: Pawan, most BPOs would welcome you with open arms, provided you have expertise (not just experience) in the area of recruitment. There are multiple ways for you to approach companies. You could directly apply to them. You could look up for job postings in major job sites. There are frequent ads for recruiters. You could also think of joining a recruitment company that caters to BPO companies, rather than joining BPO companies themselves. You need to make sure that your resume clearly reflects your experience in the area of recruitment so that you have the best chance of getting the job.
Deepak:
Im Deepak, I'm a B.com graduate. Can u pls advice/answer my following questions :
1) Which foreign language has a good job openings in Bangalore ?
2) How many companies can i find here related to this ?
3) What types of jobs would be available if i learn these languages.
4) Is it better to do in Bangalore Unversity or an pvt Institute ?
5) How many years it would take to pass level 3 ?
6) Is this field here to stay ?
Thank you very much for your adv help!!
Ans: Deepak, majority of jobs in Bangalore (and in India) are either in Indian languages or in English. The volume of work being done in India using foreign languages is limited. If such requirements exist, then companies prefer to set up businesses in countries where such languages are spoken. To make a case in point, many Indian BPO companies have set up a subsidiary in Mauritius to serve French speaking customers. To serve the Spanish speaking population in the US, companies have set up operations in various South American countries including Gautemala, Mexico etc. Having said that, there are still a few jobs in India that require expertise in foreign languages. These include captive units of European companies from Germany, France etc. While a majority of communication between the subsidiary in India and the parent company takes place in English, there is still a need to read, interpret/translate and sometimes write in European languages. It would be advisable to visit institutions such as Alliance Francais and the Max Muller Bhavan for more information in career opportunities.
Kabir:
I would like to know about the prospects in HR domain for male candidates and would like to explore the opportunity for a fresher in BPO as well as in other sectors (Retail,Banking).I would like you to help me solve my quires & myths related to HR for me HR is just recurting candidates, would like to be part of this domain as i have planned this as a life long carrer ojective.
Kindly response as soon as possible.
Ans: Kabir, being in any field, including HR, has nothing to do with being a male or female. It is a specialized field that provides exciting careers to many people. You could get into recruitment as a start. It is a sub segment of HR. You could also look at doing a diploma or getting a certificate from by doing a full time or a part time course in Human Resource Management from any university. Such courses are also available through distance learning. It would help you dispel some of the myths you may possibly have. Once that is done, you can apply for a job in the HR department of any company that you wish to join.
Sunil:
I am an Asst. Manager I this Company for the past 1 year. Basically Iam a WFM guy.
I was hired by the present Company to handle their extensive reporting work. I worked for 15 hours to consolidate the data.
My boss changed. The person who hired me has left and another person has been hired on his place.
He has been given the responsibility to rate me, which was negative to my side.
Now due to Industry slowdown in U.S. the business affected badly. I have been given the notice period.
Iam married and have a child. The market outside is not so good to absorb at this position. Inspite of my best efforts, Iam not getting any opportunity outside.
The current company has spoken the last words. I do not know what to do. Pls suggest……
Ans: Sunil, there is a requirement for WFM specialists in the industry. However, most companies prefer to grow people to these positions internally at present. Therefore, I would suggest that you start by looking at other positions in the BPO industry. There are many available (e.g. In operations, quality etc.). Once you join a company, you could look at shifting to the WFM/MIS positions by letting people know of your prior experience in this area. While getting a job will be relatively simple, moving back to the WFM role will take time (a few months to a year atleast).
Praveen:
My name is Praveen and I have been working in a BPO industry (Night shift) for the past 5 years and currently performing a role of a Sr. Executive for a non-voice based process. This is a mortgage process and at this time the situation seems to be very bad as the US mortgage industry is down. I like this job but I am not happy with the recent appraisal done for me and also there is no promotions going on.
My main problem is that due to domestic problems, I am not able to change the company because I am very much committed to the present salary and at the end of the month it’s very tight. As I got into the job, I could not find time and energy required to change the company due to the demanding schedules of the job. , I am looking for a change and also for a good salary package. I am bit worried. Please suggest.
Waiting for your reply!
Thank You.
Ans: Praveen, my suggestion is to stick to your current company and look for ways to grow it higher level positions (TL, quality etc.). You have had a significant amount of experience at the executive level, however you may need to develop and demonstrate leadership qualities in order to be promoted. An alternative would be to change the process in the current company (of course, this too will take time and some perseverance from your side). Look for a process that is growing. If you really want to look for other jobs, there are a number of postings on various job portals. You can always call and schedule your interviews on your “off” days so that you don’t have to exhause your leaves.
Rakesh Jha:
I have done my B.Com from Delhi University in 1996, since than I worked with 03 different companies(Global MNCs) and having total 10 yrs of experience and my area of specialization is in Finance & Accountancy and currently I am working with US based IT firm in Finance department on middle level position, for further growth in my carrier I wanted to do an MBA ,so I am planning to pursue a MBA through distance learning and that is also a Fasttrack MBA course, after doing lot of research finally I selected NIBM Chennai, they are conducting a Fasttrack one Year Executive MBA, can you suggest whether iam taking a right decision or not ? and does this kind of MBA certification accepted in BPO / KPO industries. Please advise.
Thanks
Rakesh Jha
Ans: Rakesh, pursuing further studies is always a good thing, provide you are genuinely looking at increasing your knowledge. You can then use this knowledge to perform better at work and therefore look for career growth. From this perspective, your decision to pursue this course is the right one. However, if you are looking for a certificate that will get you a promotion or a higher paying job, that would be a short term approach to building your career. This may not pay off. The only MBA programs that provide a good degree of certainty of getting high paying jobs are full time courses from premier institutions (even here, there are many instances of disappointments).
Jagadeesh:
My name is Jagadeesh i have completed my B.E in Mechanical engineering and currently working for a private firm as Production Engineer .
I am interested in BPO industry especially in the field of Mechanical Engineering .
Kindly guide give the details of companies which offers Mechanical engineering field.
Hope you will do the needful.
Thanks and Regards
Jagadeesh
Ans: Jagadeesh, BPO in the area of Engineering has started to provide great careers for people such as yourself. You can look at companies such as Satyam BPO, TCS, Wipro etc. You may even want to look at pure play engineering design companies (not traditionally classified as BPOs). Take a look at various job portals or job advertisements in major news papers to look for such companies. Another option for you is to look for companies that could utilize your talents in the areas of CAD/CAM or the use of other specialized software.
Prasanth:
Several times I had put this question for career guidance and received no response. Hope to have your valued response this time :
Question: I'm about 45yrs old and have long experience in the fields of Logistics, Export & Import, Cargo handling, Port operations, Shipping including Container Shipping, Freight Forwarding. Do I merit suitable slot in any BPO of repute and how are the perks ?? Grateful for your response and lead(s).
Thanks n Regards,
Prasanth
Ans: Prasanth, the question is why would you want to change your field, when you have so much experience in the area of logistics and material movement? If you are looking at changing into the BPO industry, you will probably have to start at a level lower than what you currently are at in your present job, unless of course you are looking at a senior management position. For that, you would need a significant track record at senior management positions. You could also look for middle management positions such as that of an operations manager or and AVP at various BPO companies. Please take a look at Nasscom’s web site to find a list of top BPO companies in India. The perks include a good work environment, food, transport (for lower levels mostly), health insurance etc.
Ravi:
Im Ravi i have done B.com. Can in know more abt Insurance claims processing jobs..Does it hold a good future ? Im interested in building my career into Insurance. Should i join a BPO or a Insurance company for a better job prospects. If i join a Ins comp, then as what position i should look out for as im a fresher. Pls advise.... Many Thanks.
Ans: Ravi, if you are planning on a career in insurance, it would be advisable to join an insurance company. You can combine the two by joining an insurance BPO company. There are many such opportunities such as Aviva Global Services (now part of WNS), AXA, Allianze Cornhill etc. You could also look at joining companies companies that directly sell insurance in the domestic market and look for positions in sales. There are numerous such companies including Metlife, Oriental Insurance, Max New York life etc.
Loganathan:
My name is M.Loganathan, B.Com Graduate Working as Officer-Accounts in a corporate mining Sector,
Are there any opportunity in BPO companies for back office operation or else any suggestion to take part in
BPO sector-finance & Accounts.
With regards
Loganathan.M
Ans: Loganathan, there are a lot of opportunities in BPO companies in the Finance and Accounting domain. Almost all the large companies have processes in this area. You could approach companies such as Accenture, WNS, Infosys BPO, Wipro BPO, Syntel, Genpact etc. You can even look at joining captive companies such as Oracle, which has a reasonably large F&A team. There is a shortage of professionals in the F&A space and companies are looking out for new hires with domain expertise.
