Gagandeep Gupta:
I have been working as purchase & Project Coordinator presently, have been working for the past 10 years in Mfg. as well as services industry. I have also worked in Canada for some time as I have PR for that country. I would like to change my focus from services/consultancy industry to a BPO industry, I have approached a few BPO recruiters but all are putting me at the very start of the BPO career i.e. executive level, Please advice if I can get a job at senior level also may be in the administration area in which my present profile can help…
I am attaching my resume for your reference.
Regards & Thanks
Gagandeep Gupta

Ans: Gagandeep, Whenever you change your job (including change in the industry as is your case), you need to be sure what skills you are bringing to the table, for which the new company is willing to pay for. Therefore, you need to do your homework and find out the roles in BPO companies that would value your skills and experience. It would be best if you speak to someone senior from the BPO industry to get more inputs. However, you could use your skills in areas such as administration and facilities (as you have rightly identified). In order to do so, you need to be clear with the recruiters that this is the type of job you are looking for, so that they position you appropriately. Also, please approach reputed recruiters, who have your interests in mind.

Ramachandra:
Hi, I am working now as a senior process associate in a reputed Indian MNC in Bangalore.I have a B.Com degree and work experience of 5 years in BPO Sector in voice customer service area. I am aged 40 years and have a family.

The BPO sector has not given me the kind of career growth and job satisfaction I aspired for. I seek an independence in role and responsibility.
Regards,
Ramachandra

Ans: Ramachandra, you have not described why the BPO sector has not given you the growth and job satisfaction you want. The typically, growth comes either vertically (moving up to the role of a TL etc.) or laterally (moving into training, quality etc.). If you are looking for growth, you first need to ensure your performance is excellent. However, excellent performance is merely a pre-requisite for growth and not a guarantee for growth. Therefore, you will need to start demonstrating other capabilities such as ability to take initiatives, going beyond the call of duty to create something valueable for your company/process, coaching and mentoring new employees etc. Over time, these would help you get noticed and improve your chances of growth. If you havent been doing these, chances are you will face the same problem in any industry you go to.

Ans: Jagan, there are many opportunities in the BPO industry. You could check the various job portals for openings. Alternately, you could go for the numerous job fairs that are conducted from time to time. If you have any friends working in BPO companies, they could forward your resume as most companies have a referral scheme in place. Lastly, you can also approach placement consultants who could help you with your job.

Anant:
Hi I am anant. I do not have any knowledge of working with BPO. How can an individual start BPO work, that too from the comorts of home. Is it possible? If yes what would be the capital investment? Is special training required and provided? Anant

Ans: Anant, the first step would be for you to find out more about the BPO industry. For example, you can start with talking to someone in the BPO industry, perhaps a friend or relative. The capital investments required would vary depending upon the size of business you want to establish. Working from home would involve subcontracting of work by larger companies. This is not very popular at present due to various reasons. However, you could become a freelance consultant and look at doing a variety of jobs by getting work through elance (www.elance.com).

Savita:
I am working with BPO industry since 5 Years and now since last year working as a Quality executive for the big brand quality evaluator. what is best option for me now as I am not getting any good offer for the same or the higher post. Please suggest.
Thanks and Regards,
Savita

Ans: Savita, the best way to grow is by excelling in your current role and taking on extra work that shows your company that you are worth much more. If you do want to look out, you can visit various job portals, participate in job fairs, contact friends working in other BPO companies for opportunities, contact placement consultants etc.

Manoj:
i have about 19 years of experince in different areas of IT enabled services. My dilemma is that with age, doing night shift is lil difficult, and me living in not a major metro, also narrows my chances of getting any new oppertunities. I wanted to ask you that if i want to make in change in carrer like training or business development, what is the right approach to that?
Looking forward to your reply
Manoj

Ans: Manoj, there are many approaches. For example, you can work with your own company and seek out roles in training or business development. They may not do it overnight, however help them plan for a transition in say, one year. You could also look at joining a training company that values your skills. You may want to look at a company that provides training to the BPO industry specifically. From a business development angle, many domestic BPOs would appreciate your skills and may look at you favourably for a BD position. Perhaps that is an area you could explore.

Gopi:
Basically I am a BSc Graduate and I am working in a marketing and customer service industry. I got bored with traveling and marketing. I am well in aptitude and reasoning. I have completed my MBA (marketing) in distance education program. In this I don’t feel that I am enough capable. I wish to join in a B.P.O and now I am 23 years old. ( total 2 years exp. In the present industry.) One more concern, is there is any organization that can pay me 2.0 L per annum. With my present experience. Kindly let me know.
Sincerely,
Gopi.T

Ans: Gopi, you would need to analyze why a company would pay you Rs. 2 L per annum i.e. What skills do you bring with you that is worth that amount or more. The BPO industry has a number of positions that offer a lot more than Rs. 2 Lakhs per annum, however you would need to be a specialist in some area (e.g. Procurement, legal, accounting etc.). For generic BPO jobs (international), you could look at a salary between Rs. 1.0 Lakh to 1.6 Lakhs per annum at the entry level.

Sia:
I am a B.com graduate, currently pursuing Masters in Finance (1st year). I have a total of 4 years experience in BPO industry with sales & Mortgage services and currently working as an Assistant manager – Mortgage services handling multiple accounts. I am interested in doing a SAP course (FICO module) and wanted to know whether is it going to help my career ? Currently my salary is 4.5 lakhs per annum. What is my average salary supposed to be after i complete my SAP course? Also, from which institute should i take a SAP course. Should it be from a renowned institute like Siemens/Bharat petroleum/Reliance or any institute would work. Please advice.
Thank you,
Sia

Ans: Sia, to understand what would be your earning potential, it is best to speak with other people who have done this course and are doing the job you aspire to do. If you have any friends or colleagues who are undergoing or have undergone this course, do speak with them. It is always better to do courses from well reputed organizations. In addition to training, they may also offer placement services.

Subhashish:
I am 37 years old. I have acquired experience in the field of content writing for about two years. Presently I am undergoing training in technical writing and desire to become a technical writer. Do I stand a chance in companies located in the South of India? Can you throw light on the prospects? Will my experience as a content writer count?
shubhashish

Ans: Subhashish, most companies (especially tech companies), require technical writing skills. You can check with the institute where you are undergoing training about opportunities in South India. There are also private third party companies that offer technical writing services to tech companies. To get an idea of the demand, search for technical writing positions in various job portals. You will get to know information related to location, companies etc. through such research.
